Points to consider during and after the project.

Before you start...

*Look at your household's needs and lifestyle then decide on the function of your garden. Do you have pets and children that you need to cater for in the upgrade of your yard? Do you plan to entertain in your yard? Do you have time to maintain your uprgrade or do you need a maintenance free garden?

*Check out the design feature you can add to your landscpae. Look for inspiration in magazines, newspapers and on the tv. There are many simple design elements you can install in your yard incuding water features, lighting, irrigation and layout.

*Create a list. Clearly define the elements you want in your yard and the elements you don't want. Also look to blend the style of your home with what you develop in your garden.

*Check with your council before you begin work. Before you begin excavating or pulling down trees, be sure to check with your local council that the work you are doing is permitted in your area.

During the project....

*Remember to “Dial before you Dig”. Be sure to have a professional locate the gas, cable, sewage and electrical lines in your yard before you do any sort of excavation.

*Time your project. Be sure to work with the contractors you choose and develop an execution plan. Time and prioritise the work being done.

After the project....

*Get advice on maintenance. Once your contractor has finished on site, be sure to find out how you should go about maintaining the garden. Remember that newly planted foliage needs extra care for the best chance to survive so it may be advisable to give your plants extra water and nutrients.
